Mural, a financial infrastructure company, announced on Tuesday (Oct. 20) that it has successfully closed a Series A funding round, securing $15 million. This significant capital injection is earmarked for accelerating the firm’s global expansion and for substantial investments in the critical regulatory and payments infrastructure required to scale what it terms ‘agentic finance.’
The funding round was notably led by Tether, the issuer of USDT, which stands as the world’s largest stablecoin. Paolo Ardoino, CEO of Tether, articulated the strategic rationale behind their investment, citing Mural team’s proven experience in developing enterprise-grade software capable of linking existing financial systems to stablecoin rails. Ardoino emphasized the growing necessity of such connections, stating, “As agents start moving money, that connection to the banks, payment networks and compliance systems the world still runs on becomes essential, and Mural is already doing it at scale.”
Mural’s co-founder and CEO, Sinclair Toffa, underscored the transformative shift driving the company’s mission. “The economy is about to gain 10 billion new participants, and none of them are human,” Toffa remarked in the news release. He elaborated on the company’s evolving objective: “Our mission has been to connect people and businesses to the Global Financial Internet. Now we are connecting agents as well.” This vision positions Mural at the forefront of integrating autonomous agents into the global financial ecosystem.
The company positions itself as the “compliant system of record” utilized by FinTechs and various platforms to manage, store, and grow their customers’ money. Mural’s offering is a unified system that oversees accounts, payments, identity verification, and compliance protocols, serving both human users and the agents authorized to act on their behalf. This integrated approach aims to streamline operations that are currently fragmented across numerous providers.
The complexity of existing financial operations for global businesses is a key challenge Mural seeks to address. The company’s release highlighted that many enterprises currently “stitch together dozens of financial tools, bank partners, and compliance vendors to offer financial products to their customers.” This patchwork approach inevitably leads to escalating complexities in managing the components and policies of user financial accounts across disparate platforms and providers as these systems attempt to scale.
Sinclair Toffa and his fellow founder, Chris Fernandes, are leveraging their prior experience as engineers at Palantir to tackle these intricate issues. They observe that as software companies increasingly embed financial products, they introduce “more capabilities, more providers and more systems operating around the same customer with nothing to connect them.” Mural aims to provide that crucial connective tissue.
The investment arrives amidst a burgeoning interest in artificial intelligence (AI) agents within the corporate sector, though their operational deployment remains largely cautious. Research conducted by PYMNTS Intelligence illustrates a rapid acceleration in AI agent adoption. In late 2025, only 7% of surveyed executives reported using or piloting agents. This figure dramatically surged to 89% of executives surveyed this year, who indicated they were employing agents in at least one area of their business operations.
Despite this widespread adoption, the practical application of these agents is still in its nascent stages. Karen Webster, CEO of PYMNTS, noted in a column, “Here’s the fine print. Most companies have let agents in the door but haven’t let them do much yet.” The research further revealed that a significant 78% of companies would permit agents to read company systems but not execute actions based on that information. Another 18% would allow agents to conduct tasks, but only with explicit human approval. A mere 2% of companies stated they permit agents to perform routine tasks autonomously.
Webster succinctly summarized this operational gap: “In other words, the agents can look up the flights, but they can’t book them. That’s the gap. It’s also both the opportunity and the roadmap.” Mural’s strategic focus on building the foundational infrastructure for agentic finance directly addresses this identified gap, aiming to empower agents with the compliant and connected capabilities needed to move beyond mere information retrieval to actual financial execution. This $15 million Series A funding positions Mural to play a pivotal role in enabling this next phase of automated financial operations, bridging the divide between AI agent potential and practical, secure implementation within the global financial internet.
