Oil tanker traffic through the Strait of Hormuz is poised for a rapid increase should the United States and Iran finalize a credible agreement that enhances security in the critical waterway, according to Lars Barstad, CEO of Frontline (FRO).
Barstad conveyed this outlook during an interview with CNBC on Thursday. He stated, “Oil tanker traffic through the Strait of Hormuz should quickly increase if the U.S. and Iran reach a credible agreement that improves security in the vital waterway.”
Frontline, a major player in the oil tanker industry, closely monitors geopolitical developments impacting global shipping routes. The Strait of Hormuz remains a choke point for a significant portion of the world’s oil supply, making its security paramount for energy markets and maritime logistics.
The CEO’s comments underscore the potential for a substantial shift in maritime activity and, by extension, the tanker market, contingent on diplomatic progress between Washington and Tehran.
