KYOTO, Japan – Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (TOKYO: 6981) has announced the commencement of mass production for seven AEC-Q200-qualified multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs). This strategic move introduces components that achieve the world’s largest capacitance for their specified rated voltage and size, a critical advancement designed to bolster the stable operation of increasingly complex in-vehicle systems and provide greater design flexibility for automotive manufacturers.
The new portfolio addresses diverse needs within the rapidly evolving automotive electronics landscape. Five of the newly mass-produced MLCCs are part of the GCM series, rated at 2.5-4 Vdc. These are specifically engineered for IC peripheral circuits, targeting high-growth segments such as advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and autonomous driving (AD) applications, where compact, high-performance components are paramount.
Complementing these, the remaining two MLCCs are rated at 25 Vdc and are designated for robust performance in in-vehicle power line applications. The AEC-Q200 qualification ensures these components meet the stringent reliability standards required for automotive environments. Murata’s innovation in capacitance density allows for smaller footprints, enabling engineers to optimize board space and potentially reduce overall system costs, while ensuring consistent power delivery and signal integrity in critical automotive functions.
This development positions Murata to further support the automotive industry’s transition towards more sophisticated and electrified vehicles, where component reliability and performance directly impact vehicle safety and functionality.
