MDU Resources (MDU) announced that its Montana-Dakota Utilities subsidiary has entered into an electric service agreement with Applied Digital (APLD). This significant agreement is set to provide power for Applied Digital’s planned Polaris Forge 3 AI factory, which will be located in North Dakota.
The proposed Polaris Forge 3 facility is projected to require a substantial 430 megawatts (MW) of electricity. This considerable power demand underscores the intensive energy needs of modern artificial intelligence operations and the critical infrastructure required to support them, particularly for large-scale data processing and computational tasks.
The announcement, made post-market Monday, details Montana-Dakota Utilities’ commitment to supplying the necessary energy for the high-demand AI factory.
